Stainless steel appliances are both sleek and stylish. The timeless color is neutral, making it a great choice for varying designs and décor. While perfectly shiny upon installation, stainless steel appliances can quickly accrue fingerprints and smudges after just a few uses. If it weren’t for those darn kids needing snacks, things would stay spotless.
The good news is that kids and stainless steel can peacefully coexist. There are a few reputable ways to clean stainless steel. Although many commercial products exist specifically for this purpose, we recommend trying out a natural combination first. These are a few of our favorite techniques.
Club soda
This one is as easy as they come. Simply spray your appliance with a bottle filled with club soda. To clean the blotches and stains, wipe the appliance completely dry with a microfiber cloth. Make sure to wipe in the direction of the grain.
Vinegar + oil
To use this trick, put white vinegar in a small, clean spray bottle. Spray your appliance. Using a microfiber cloth, wipe in the direction of the grain. When it’s clean and streak-free, dip a clean section of the cloth into pure olive oil or baby oil. Once again, wipe the appliance, going with the grain. The olive oil will add some protective shine.
Mild dish soap + oil
Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water. Follow the same steps as mentioned previously: applying the solution to the appliance with a spray bottle, wiping clean with a microfiber cloth, wiping in the direction of the grain, and following up with either type of oil.
